HOW HUE WORKS

The HUE process of color design is a collaborative one between Justin and each client. While the connection and discovery are often intuitive and free-flowing, we’ve created steps to define our working relationship and structure our time together.

THE PROCESS

Step 01 / Discovery

This free call is where we will get to know you and discuss your project needs. Are you looking to add more life to your home but don’t know where to start? Are you designing a commercial property and need guests to feel a certain way in the space? We want to hear all about it.

Step 02 / Proposal

HUE will send you a custom project proposal. This will outline the services we plan to cover and a timeline of our work together. We will provide an estimated starting cost, knowing the scope of our collaboration is subject to (and often does!) evolve once we see your space in person.

Step 03 / Session

When you accept our proposal we will set a date* for Justin to spend time with you in your space and work through HUE’s process in real time. This involves deeper discussion, pulling physical inspiration from your surroundings and Justin’s collection, and landing on a color or palette of colors that serve your home, office, or business in a whole new way.

*Please note: We require a commitment fee of $150 to secure your Session date on HUE’s calendar. The remainder of your investment will be billed to you after our visit.

Step 04 / Refinement

Justin will make any necessary adjustments to the tones, shades, and values of your HUE colors or further refine your custom palette after you’ve had some time to sit with what we’ve created. Our team is also available to test paint swatches in your space, and can be hired to complete your residential or commercial painting project through Justin’s company, Hobart & Co.

KIND WORDS

“Justin’s knowledge of color is extraordinary. I have always learned things when working with Justin and delight in spending time and consulting with her.”

 FAQs

  • The most important aspect in creating color palettes that resonate and make an impact is getting to know clients personally. Justin achieves this by learning about who you are and getting a sense of your space. Oftentimes, personal and profound stories are shared that have a great effect on the curation of colors. That said, the lighting and style of your space will also affect the depths and hues of the colors selected.

  • Absolutely! We can and often do work virtually. We utilize Zoom so clients can take us through their spaces as if we were there. We’re able to get a sense of their spaces, the lighting, accents, details, and style so we know how to modify our colors so the HUE and depth is just right. We also utilize photos often and combine those with Justin’s intro to who our clients are as people. Despite our physical distance, we are able to create custom color palettes very successfully through these remote meetings. That said, if you are local to New England it is always preferable to meet in person in your space.

  • Every project is completely different! In general, Justin’s intuitive design process of creating color palettes and stories for each client can take between 1-5 hours depending on the scope of the project. This does not account for the first two phases, Discovery and Proposal.

  • During the initial consultation where Justin meets you and sees your spaces she immediately starts visualizing the color palettes. Justin will present your custom color options by creating a color story for your space. We can apply the samples directly to the walls, or we can provide large swatches you can move around to different locations in each room. Either way, we believe it’s important to see a large physical manifestation of your colors, rather than providing you with small color tiles or color codes.

  • We share some of our favorite color design projects and the stories behind them here.

  • Once you make contact with us, we will reach out to set up a Discovery Call with Justin where she will get a sense of who you are, assess your needs, and answer any questions you have before putting together your custom quote.

  • Now that we have created your custom color story, we will provide you with the custom formulas, as well as existing color names. We are happy to continue working with you to recommend paint finishes and how to hire professional painting contractors. If you are local to Southeastern CT, Justin’s sister company, Hobart & Co, would be more than happy to take you to these next steps.
